Youth Art Class Information/Descriptions, Spring 2013
Painting and Drawing: Portfolio Development, Session I
High School Age
Saturdays, January 19 – February 23 (6 Week Session), 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Members: $125, Non-Members: $140
High School students with an exceptional interest in art will focus on developing techniques and creating completed artworks for inclusion in a professional portfolio. Students will take advantage of studio time, participate in peer critiques and will learn how to prepare their artwork for presentation. By the end of this class, students will have a head start at creating a portfolio for college entry and scholarship consideration. Supply list varies depending on student interest. Limited supplies may be included.
Saturday Art School, Session I
Ages 7-12
Saturdays, January 19 – February 23 (6 Week Session), 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
6 week Class Pack- Members: $100, Non-Members: $110, $20 Supply Fee
3 week Class Pack- Members $55, Non-Members $60
Drop in/Per class- Members $20, Non-Members $25
Young artists will have a great time creating dynamic works of art while learning about artists throughout history. Students will draw, paint, sculpt, and more! Each week will explore a different media, technique, or skill. A flexible schedule allows for students to register for a discounted rate with a Class Pack, or just drop in (space limited). Best of all, supplies are included!

To encourage the community to donate knit and crocheted pieces to our yarn installation, we are offering free workshops! This workshop covers the basics of knitting. Spaces are limited, materials are provided on a first-register basis. This class is for all ages, 12 and up. Please do NOT send a registration form for this class. Instead, send an e-mail to education@mariettacobbartmuseum.org with your name, a phone number where you can be reached, which technique you would like to learn (knitting or crocheting), and how many slots you would like to reserve. Studio Art for Teens
Ages 12+
Tuesdays, February 26 – April 2 (6 Week Session), 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Members: $125, Non-Members: $140, $20 Supply Fee
In this intermediate class for teens, students will develop their artistic skills in a supportive studio environment through projects that encourage them to express themselves using a variety of techniques and mediums. Topics covered will be painting, drawing, printmaking, and more. Emphasis will be on composition, design, and originality. Students will end sessions with group and individual critiques.

Introduce your child to different water-based media, including acrylics, temperas, and watercolors. This 2 day class will teach the very basics of these materials in a fun way! Your child will come home with a one-of-a-kind work of art! Parents must stay in the building for the duration of the class. Bring "art clothes" for your child- We may get messy!

Pottery Wheel Working
Intermediate / Advanced (10+)
Saturdays, April 13 – May 4 (4 weeks), 10:00 a.m. - Noon
Members: $115, Non-Members: $135
This class is for students who have some experience with the pottery wheel and are comfortable centering clay and with other basic wheel techniques. In this class, students will focus on improving on the basic techniques of wheel working, and will learn new, more advance techniques. With a maximum of 5 students, each student will receive individualized attention based on his or her own level. Supplies and firings included.
Pottery Hand-Building
Ages 6+
Saturdays, May 11 – June 1 (4 week), 10:00 a.m. – Noon
Members: $85, Non-Members: $100
Pottery hand building is a great foundation for advanced skills such as sculpture and wheel working. Young students will work on their hand strength and fine motor coordination, while learning the basics of hand building with clay. Students will learn basic techniques including pinching, coiling and slab construction, surface decoration, and glazing. Supplies and firings included.
Preschool Painting Class
Ages 3 - 4
May 22 & 23, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Members: $50, Non-Members: $70, $10 Supply Fee
Introduce your child to paint and come home with a one-of-a-kind work of art! In this class for young children, we will be playing with tempera paints. There will be a book break halfway through the class to keep children's attention. Parents must stay in the building for the duration of the class.
