Pottery Wheel “Test-Drive” and Demonstration

Members: $15, Non-Members: $20
Have you always wanted to throw on the wheel, but have been too intimidated, unsure, or busy to commit to a full class? This is for you! Take a “Test-Drive” of our pottery wheels and receive a demonstration and mini-lesson. Each student will work at his/her own wheel. Most students will complete at least one piece. No experience necessary. All supplies are included. Age 16 - Adult

Youth Wheel Working

Get your hands dirty! In this class, students will learn the exciting techniques of working with clay on the pottery wheel. With a maximum of 5 students, each student will receive individual attention and will work at their own level and improve at an individual pace. Students must be at least 8 years old. Supplies and firings included.
Youth Painting
Saturdays, January 14th - February 11th
and February 25th
10 a.m. - Noon
Instructor: Laura Surace
Members: $120, Non-Members: $150
This class focuses on creating realistic paintings created through direct observation. Our curriculum goes beyond painting from the imagination, and from images, and teaches children the skill of “painting what you see” and the basics of composition and painting. This class is for all levels of experience and talent, but students must have an exceptional interest in learning how to paint. (Call for supply list)
Wheel Working

This class covers the basic techniques of wheel working. Students will learn to create a variety of forms and will explore various glazing and decorating techniques. With a small class size of up to 5 students, each student will work at his own level and improve at an individual pace. Students must be at least 12 years old. Supplies and firings included.
Advanced Wheel Throwing
Must have prior wheel experience and have proficiency in basic wheel techniques.
Wednesdays, March 7th - March 28th and April 11th, 18th
5 – 7 p.m.

Have you mastered the basics of wheel working? This class will go beyond the basic techniques of wheel working and focus on advanced forms and skills. Students will explore a variety of glazing and finishing techniques. With a small class size of up to 5 students, each student will work at his own level and improve at an individual pace. Students must have prior wheel experience. Supplies and firings included.
Youth Handbuilding
Saturdays, March 10th - March 24th and April 7th (4 wks)
12 - 2 p.m.
Instructor: Mereta Pettigrew

Get ready to get your hands dirty! Students will learn the basics of handbuilding with clay, including pinching, coiling and slab construction, with emphasis on technique and basic forms. Supplies and firings included.
Saturday Art School

Students will enjoy a fun and exciting time creating dynamic works of art while learning about artists throughout history. Students will draw, paint, sculpt and more! Mother/Daughter Jewelry Workshop and Tea

This class is a great opportunity for toddlers (and parents!) to explore, create, and make a mess! Children will create works inspired by our collection of art or a short story read in class. This class focuses on developing fine motor skills and introducing children to a structured classroom environment. Our motto is “It’s the process not the product!”
Pay at the door. No registration necessary.

Adult Pastel Landscape
Saturdays, January 14th - February 11th and February 25th
2:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Create vivid landscapes in pastels using colored paper as a base. Learn techniques in blending and color theory as well as how to create a focal point in landscape composition. Demos and individual instruction will be provided in each session. Supply list will be provided at first session.

Using Encaustics and Mixed Media in Art:
Tuesdays, January 17th - February 21st
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Learn how the ancient technique of encaustic painting can be mixed with collage elements to create luminous artworks. Encaustic paints include melting beeswax, damar resin, and oil pigments together to make a thick and binding medium. Learn how to set up an encaustic studio and how to manipulate and layer mediums for dynamic effects. Supply list will be given out the first day of class.
Adult Portrait Painting
Tuesdays, March 6th- March 27th and April 10th, 17th
10 a.m. – Noon
Instructor: Laura Surace
Members: $130, Non-Members: $150
Learn the fundamentals of painting portraits. Students will master an understanding of the structure of the human head and will learn a variety of approaches to painting a portrait. This class will reference historical and contemporary portrait artists. Students will work from a combination of live models and other references.

Plein Air Painting with John B. Guernsey
Saturdays, April 14th - May 19th
Instructor: John B. Guernsey

Learn the key elements of landscape painting with oils, with an emphasis on the 'plein air' approach. This class is structured to create an enjoyable and fast moving environment, with effective studio instruction as well as plein air painting at local outdoor locations such as Smith-Gilbert Gardens, Brumby Gardens, and the Marietta Square. There will be numerous demonstrations, and an emphasis on one-on-one instruction. Find out how the concepts of the plein air approach will help you learn rapidly and create exciting and impressive paintings. Some topics include: supplies, composition, landscape concepts, using value to create depth, color mixing, and brush techniques.
