Within: Looking Beyond the Surface
by Martin Pate
Within: Looking Beyond the Surface exhibits a selection of paintings and drawings by Atlanta portrait artist Martin Pate. This exhibition focuses on the delicate approach needed to create sights of contemplation, introspection, and meditation without fixating on the human face. Pate’s art, including portraiture, still life, and landscape, urges viewers to gain an appreciation for the simple, serene instances in life. Figures gaze into the distance, apples sit alone, and chairs are left empty, all of which evokes peace in solitude and the beauty of having just a moment to think.
The Portrait Society of Atlanta
A Juried Exhibition
Join us for a juried exhibition of the artists of The Portrait Society of Atlanta, judged by Michele Rushworth. The PSA is a non-profit organization of portrait artists whose main purpose is to educate the public to a greater awareness of the portrait as a valid and valuable art form. The art of portraiture, like everything else, has evolved over time. Whether a portrait is commissioned or created for the sake of artistic pleasure, portraiture has served many purposes. It is a personal endeavor to remember a loved one, celebrate life, or mark a moment in history, and this is one element that has remained timeless.
